About the Position:Apply Journey-man level knowledge of pipefitting, principles and accepted maintenance concepts to provide maintenance support to the health care facility.

About the Location: Fairbanks Alaska is host to many different cultures; unique shopping and dining facilities; as well as sporting activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and skiing; and viewing of spectacular Northern Lights displays and larger than life ice sculptures. Population of Fairbanks is about 87,000. Winter brings consistent snow conditions from November through March. Winter temperatures average 8 degrees F to -19 degrees F; summer temperatures rise into the 70s and 80s.

  • Perform the full range of tasks associated with journeymen level pipefitting and plumbing.
  • Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water distribution systems, water closets, tubs, sinks, and showers.
  • Complete the routing and placement of systems leading to the equipment, and seating, Hooking up, and testing the equipment.
  • Perform air, hydrostatic and operational tests on piping systems to determine system condition.
  • Apply shop mathematics to layout angles and arcs when performing work such as calculating pipe to support pressures of systems.
  • Ability to work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment
  • Lay out and install various kinds of piping, risers, and flexible branches at the proper level and incline to route water and other substances to final destination.
  • Cut threads in pipe stock using a pipe threading machine to fabricate pipe assemblies.

Applicants must have sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish the duties of the position. Such knowledge, skills, and abilities must be clearly documented in your resume and must demonstrate skill and ability of cutting, bending, assembling, and installing water pipe, fittings, and fixtures such as reducers and valves in constructing and repairing piping systems; aligning piping sections and making proper connections; and installing utility fixtures such as toilets, sinks, wash stands; and repair leaks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical effort:Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hoists, performing work in hard to reach places and cramped or damp work areas. Required to stand, push, pull, reach, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and climb for extended periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions:Works inside and outside and is subject to quick changes in temperatures from extreme heat and humidity to sub-zero outdoor temperatures. May be exposed to toxic chemicals, acids, asbestos, dirt, dust, grease, and biological hazards associated with a health care facility. Subject to possibility of broken bones, burns, electrical shock, cuts, bruises, and burns. To avoid personal injury, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing may be required when working in confined spaces and hazardous work areas. PPE may be confining, restrictive and uncomfortable.
